A proposed restoration at Pembamnazi

ATI's Pembamnazi initiative focuses on restoring degraded mangrove areas while strengthening community stewardship and coastal livelihoods. The project design covers Vinondo A, Vinondo B and surrounding sites within the Pembamnazi Mangrove Forest Reserve, Kigamboni.

It connects ecological restoration with longer-term opportunities in beekeeping, sustainable fishing and seaweed farming, with women and youth central to implementation. Verified completion figures will be published once field monitoring and reporting are finalised.

What is proposed

The proposal targets restoration of 60 hectares, planted at one propagule per square metre (roughly 600,000 propagules of Rhizophora mucronata and Avicennia marina), through community sensitisation, seed collection, direct planting, protection, patrols and monitoring.

These figures are targets set out in the proposal, not completed results.
