Environmental and Wildlife Conservation Program
Under our Environmental and Wildlife Conservation program, ATI begins by tackling environmental crimes—including illegal wildlife and timber trafficking—through cross-border law enforcement collaboration. Because these crimes span Tanzania and neighboring countries, we bring together law enforcement officers, customs teams, and environmental agencies from across the region to strengthen detection, investigation, intelligence-sharing, and prosecution. This foundation ensures illegal activities are addressed at their source, creating safer ecosystems and protecting endangered species.
Once enforcement structures are strengthened, ATI expands conservation impact through community-based incentives and restoration initiatives. Our key interventions include:
1. Mangrove Rehabilitation
Coastal mangroves are essential for climate resilience, fisheries, and biodiversity. ATI engages communities in:
Restoring and replanting degraded mangrove forests
Training women and youth groups on sustainable mangrove management
Monitoring ecosystem recovery and strengthening local governance
2. Tree Planting & Landscape Restoration
To combat deforestation and land degradation, ATI has planted over 10,000 trees in schools, villages, and community-managed forests. These initiatives:
Restore degraded landscapes and wildlife habitats
Increase carbon sequestration
Improve soil fertility and water security
3. Human–Wildlife Coexistence
Communities living near wildlife corridors often face conflict that threatens both people and animals. ATI supports coexistence through:
Awareness campaigns on safe practices and wildlife protection
Conflict mitigation strategies and early-warning systems
Alternative livelihoods that reduce risky interactions with wildlife
4. Community Awareness & Incentives
To foster long-term conservation, ATI empowers communities through:
Film screenings and facilitated dialogues to educate and shift social norms
Training and capacity building for youth and women in conservation leadership
Sustainable livelihood projects, including eco-friendly income-generation initiatives
Our Impact
By combining cross-border enforcement, community engagement, and ecosystem restoration, ATI ensures that conservation is sustainable, inclusive, and far-reaching. This integrated approach protects Africa’s natural heritage while empowering the communities who rely on it, creating a greener, safer, and more resilient future.
