Combating Human Trafficking in Tanzania
ATI’s approach to combating human trafficking is grounded in the understanding that Tanzania serves as a source, transit, and destination country for victims. Given that trafficking networks operate across borders, our response is equally coordinated and international.
Cross-Border Law Enforcement Training Program
ATI’s flagship intervention is the Cross-Border Law Enforcement Training Program, which brings together former and current law enforcement experts to strengthen regional and global cooperation. Through these trainings, officers gain essential skills in:
Victim identification
Case management
Intelligence-sharing
Trauma-informed interviewing
Dismantling organised trafficking networks
Regional Collaboration
ATI has facilitated collaboration between officers and experts from:
Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Cambodia, and the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville).
This collaboration creates a shared platform for:
Exchanging best practices
Harmonising investigative approaches
Building trust across borders
As a result, regional capacity to prevent trafficking, rescue victims, and prosecute offenders has been significantly enhanced.
Protecting Vulnerable Populations
Beyond law enforcement, ATI focuses on protecting vulnerable populations—particularly women and youth, who constitute the majority of victims. Key initiatives include:
Awareness & Prevention Campaigns: Social media advocacy, community sensitization, and public dialogues to educate communities about risks and reporting channels.
Film Screenings & Public Discussions: Using storytelling and documentaries to expose trafficking realities and inspire community-driven solutions.
Targeted Outreach: Workshops that equip vulnerable groups with knowledge on recognising recruitment tactics, preventing online exploitation, and staying safe.
